PLAY MUSIC. JOIN A BAND. GET ON STAGE.

Ready to experience what it’s really like to be in a band?

Rock On Band Class is our 8-week programme where young musicians are matched with other students, form a band and rehearse together with guidance from our professional Rock On tutors.

Students will work on songs they love, develop their musicianship, learn how to play as part of a band and build towards a live performance on 24th October.

Whether your child already has lessons at Rock On or plays elsewhere, Band Class gives them something completely different from a one-to-one lesson - the experience of making music with other musicians.

Bands will be put together based on age, instrument, experience and musical interests wherever possible.

£20 per 2-hour session - booked as one 8-week block for £160.

Limited places are available in each band.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does my child need to already be a Rock On student?

No. Band Class is open to both current Rock On Music Academy students and new students. If you're already with us, simply select Current Rock On Student when booking and you won't need to enter all of your details again.

Does my child need band experience?

No. Students don't need to have played in a band before. We'll match students based on their age, instrument and experience so they can develop together.

Does my child need to bring an instrument?

Students should bring their own instrument where appropriate. Larger instruments and equipment including drum kits, keyboards and amplifiers are available at the academy. If you're unsure what to bring, just ask us.

How are the bands put together?

We consider age, instrument, playing experience and musical interests when putting bands together. Our aim is to create bands where students will enjoy playing together and can develop at an appropriate level.

Can friends join together?

Absolutely. Tell us who you'd like to be placed with on the booking form and we'll do our best to put friends together where the combination of instruments and experience allows.

How many students will be in each band?

Band sizes will vary depending on the instruments and students enrolled. We aim to create realistic, balanced bands where every student has an important musical role.

What songs will they play?

Songs will be selected with the students and tutors based on each band's ability, instruments and musical tastes. Expect plenty of rock, pop and contemporary music.

Is there a live performance?

Yes! Performing is a big part of Band Class. Each term, bands will work towards a live performance on the final Saturday of term, giving students an exciting goal to work towards and the chance to showcase what they’ve achieved to family and friends.

How long is each Band Class course?

Band Class runs alongside our school terms, so the course length will vary depending on the length of each term. Students book for the full term, giving their band time to form, choose songs, rehearse, develop their set and prepare for their end-of-term live performance.

What happens at the end of each term?

Band Class courses run every term, giving students the opportunity to continue developing with their band, learn new songs and work towards regular live performances. Towards the end of each term, you’ll be given the opportunity to sign up for the following term and continue your Band Class journey.

What happens if my child misses a week?

Because Band Class is a group programme, regular attendance is important. If your child cannot attend a rehearsal, please let us know as early as possible so the tutor can plan around their absence.

Do students need hearing protection?

Yes. We require appropriate hearing protection during band rehearsals. Hearing protection is available at the academy if required.

Do they need to bring food?

These are 2-hour sessions, so students do not need to bring a packed lunch. We recommend bringing a labelled bottle of water
